Micki Vandeloo, Versatech Business Development Manager, and Kevin Ruholl, Versatech Engineering Manager, participated in the East Central Illinois Super Region Roundtable on 10/28/14. Versatech had a booth with information on our company as well as a presentation and video showing Versatech's full service set of solutions for manufacturers. Kevin participated with representatives from Yargus Manufacturing and North American Lighting on a panel discussion entitled "From a Manufacturer's Perspective", which was very well attended and informed audience members about the challenges that area manufacturers face.
The event also offered a session on Replicable Success Stories, which included presentations from North American Lighting and Lake Land College on their partnership to train new NAL employees; from Stepheny McMahon, Director of the Sullivan Chamber and Economic Development on the No Job Left Behind Initiative to attract high school students in Sullivan to manufacturing careers; and from Norma Lansing from the Effingham Chamber of Commerce on Manufacturing Day 2014, which was a resounding success (and in which Versatech was a participant).
There were educational breakout sessions; a presentation from Thyssen Krupp Presta on their Youth Apprenticeship Program; and vendor booths from colleges, Versatech and vendors working to enhance the perception of manufacturing for our nation's young people. A working lunch brought together community colleges, manufacturers and economic development personnel to discuss ways to address the skills shortage, with each table coming up with one idea to promote manufacturing to the next generation.
Versatech would like to thank Barbara Webster from ECIDC for putting together such a valuable event! As Helen Keller said, “Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much."
