The big-hearted employees of Versatech once again rallied around a fellow employee in his time of need. And, there were a few bruised shins in the process!
On Thursday, October 29th, Versatech held its inaugural Human Foosball Tournament and Bake Sale. The idea for this event came from some of the Versatech employees, and the event was marketed as a benefit for a local charity. However, a covert effort was underway to donate the proceeds to a second shift employee, Eric, whose little boy, Declan, is undergoing costly medical treatment for a life threatening condition. Participants and management staff surprised Eric with the news during the event.
Human Foosball is an adult version of the popular game. There are three front line players, two back line players and one goalee on each team. The players are tethered to a long pole so they can't use their hands. The goal is to kick a soccer ball into the opposite teams goal. The team with the most goals after ten minutes of playing time wins. With everyone kicking so close together and no way to move to avoid an oncoming kick or soccer balls, legs and shins definitely suffered!
The event was a huge success, with five teams participating in the tournament. The winning team, Team Squelch, led by Greg Gillespie and Mitch Stevens, were the winners and now enjoy bragging rights as the Versatech Human Foosball Champions!
Employees and family members also donated bake sale items to help support the cause. There were lots of goodies to go around and to console losing Human Foosball players!
Versatech is so proud of their employees and would like to particularly commend Matt Repking, Plant Manager, for organizing the event! We wish Eric and Declan and the rest of Eric's family strength and comfort during this very difficult time.
