The Effingham Area Manufacturer's Network met on 10/15 and took a tour of Evapco's current facility and new facilty for their Evapcold product. Evapco manufacturers evaporative condensers and thermal storage units for commercial and industrial applications.
The new Evapcold product line will use low charge ammonia to satisfy the requirements of the food industry associated with reduced environmental impact. The new facility, located directly to the north of the current Evapco plant, can accomodate up to 150 employees. As orders are just starting to come in for the new units, current employment at Evapcold is 20 employees. The units are assembled in an assembly line process and the new facility will use no forklifts! Lean manufacturing and the elimination of waste is at the forefront of the plant's design.
Evapco currently has approximately 400,000 square feet of manufacturing space under roof (the company started with approximately 40,000 square feet!). This provided a good workout for network members, who were led on tours by some of Evapco's key staff members. Tours were done in small groups to allow for good conversation during the tours.
After the tour, Evapco treated the group to a wonderful pizza lunch and thanked everyone for attending. Micki Vandeloo, Versatech Business Development Manager, announced an upcoming Lean Certificate Series at Danville Area Community College starting in November.
The next Network meeting will be in December at Irwin Seating in Altamont. Micki Vandeloo will send out details as they become available.
If you are an Effingham area manufacturer and wish to join the network, which is absolutely free and committed to education, networking and benchmarking, contact Micki Vandeloo at firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to the distribution list!
